Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are getting through the last several weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during cold nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than turning in at night and realizing your furnace won’t kick on. If you find yourself in this situation, here are a few things you can check yourself before calling Roland J. Down Service Experts .

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters every 30 days. If you do not, they can end up clogged, blocking air flow and resulting in your furnace malfunctioning.

Check Your Thermostat

See if turning the temperature up a few degrees will get the furnace to turn on. If the current room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t kick on. Also, make sure the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem ridiculous, but make sure the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas heating equipment uses electricity so confirm the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch has not been accidently flipped to the “Off” position.

If you check all these things and your furnace will still not start up, give Roland J. Down Service Experts a call at 518-417-2938 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
