From time-to-time bad things can happen to wonderful people. And sometimes, these people turn their misfortune into an occasion to help others. Many in the heating and AC service industry know a man who did just that. His name is Joe Groh, and he lives here in Texas.
Joe worked in the HVAC industry for nearly 30 years before a biking accident left him paralyzed from the neck down. Despite his immobility, Joe wanted to stay involved in the HVAC industry, so he created the Joseph Groh Foundation. The foundation works with companies in the construction trades industries, including plumbing, HVAC, electrical and roofing, to provide short and long-term disability insurance for their employees. It also is an information forum on spinal cord injuries.
The Joseph Groh Foundation also offers financial assistance to those in the industry or their family members who have suffered a life changing injury or illness. Recipients have used money from the foundation in various ways, such as making homes wheel chair accessible by widening doorways, adding access ramps, redoing flooring and purchasing adaptive equipment. To meet financial assistance requests, the foundation holds a variety of fundraisers year-round.
Roland J. Down Service Experts regularly supports Joe and his goal to help others in the HVAC industry that have been impacted by a life altering accident and was proud to sponsor one of the Joseph Groh Foundation’s recent golf tournament fundraisers. The Service Experts Tournament for the Joseph Groh Foundation took place at Coyote Ridge Golf Club in the Dallas TX metro area on May 4. With 131 golfers on the links this year, the tournament earned more than $52,000.
“We are happy to support Joe and his efforts to assist others with his real life message of inspiring hope through adversity,” says Scott Boxer, CEO and President of Service Experts. “Whether it’s in Albany or the nearly 85 markets across North America, Service Experts is committed to the communities we serve.”
While Roland J. Down Service Experts supports a number of charities and organizations across Albany, we’re particularly proud to give back to organizations in the heating, ventilation and AC service industry. To learn more about the Joseph Groh Foundation, visit josephgrohfoundation.org.
