Getting Ready for Air Conditioning Season

April 30, 2016

Summer isn’t officially here but the temperatures are definitely warming up and that means it’s time for cooling season. Before the heat sets in and you’re running your air conditioning unit constantly to stay comfortable, don’t forget to call your AC maintenance technician to visit your home and conduct your annual ac maintenance.

In addition to a Precision A/C tune-up, there are several other ways you can get ready for the cooling season before warmer weather is officially here to stay.

  • Clean Your System

No, we aren’t implying that you should take your air conditioning unit apart, let a professional do that, but you can clean up the ground around your A/C to clear away branches and foliage that have made their way to your air conditioning unit during the windy winter and stormy spring. Cut the grass around the unit and trim back any overgrown plants or vegetation to make sure your air conditioning unit is clear of debris. Keeping a clear airway can help keep your A/C equipment running properly.

·     Change Your Home’s Air Filters

Roland J. Down Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning will replace your home’s basic air filters when they perform your seasonal tune-up as part of your scheduled A/C maintenance. You can (and should) also change your HVAC air filters by yourself, and it’s suggested that you do so at least every one to two months for optimal performance. If you don’t replace your filter it accumulates dust, allergens, and germs so for the health of your family and the efficiency of your air conditioner, make sure you’re changing those filters as part of your standard cooling equipment service. Note that a clogged filter could even damage your A/C system.

  • Block the Sun

Help keep your home cooler by hanging blackout drapes or window shades to help keep the sun from heating up your home. This may also help protect your furniture and floors from fading or experiencing sun damage over time.

·     Check Alarm Batteries

If you didn’t check your smoke and CO detector batteries over daylight savings, now it a great time. While you’re at it, check the batteries in your thermostat to make sure it is functioning properly so you don’t end up calling an AC service technician because your system isn’t working and then it ends up just being the thermostat. You could also consider installing an automated thermostat so you can adjust the temperature remotely and save money on your utility bills.

A yearly A/C system tune-up service could make your air conditioner up to 30% more efficient and save you money on your energy bills. Call Roland J. Down Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning today to make sure your air conditioner is ready to keep you cool and comfortable through the summer and ask about our spring specials on AC Precision tune-ups.
